9 Shoe Trends to Step Up Your Spring Game

Updated: Apr 14, 2020

I can't help it. I just can't. Shoes are my weakness. They're probably yours too if you took interest on this post. And I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that shoes are an investment as important as a good car. Why? They both take you places. Sure, it's your feet who do the moving, but your shoe sole is the true ground's acquaintance.

Believe me, when you find the right shoes, you'll now. They will be shoes that keep you grounded, but at the same time incite you to float into the clouds. So, if you're looking to invest in a new pair now that the new season has arrived, you're in exactly the right place.

Here are the 9 shoe trends that will take over this spring, where you can find them and my take on some of them:

1. Western boots

It's been a while now that cowboy-inspired boots have been on the radar. Thank you, Kendall Jenner. Also, the flowy summer dress and boots combo frenzy is just gaining intensity. Why not give it a try with a different kind of boot? From white to black, to hot pink. Texas babies, it's your time to shine even brighter. Take the plunge and make western boots the yee to your haw.

2. Animal print

This one is no surprise, I'm guessing, if you like to constantly patrol the mall like it's your job... very much like me. Out of the blue, animal print suddenly appeared on every rack at every store from one day to the next. The trend did not just conquer the tops and bottoms' department. Those paws made it to shoes and can now get you anywhere you wish to go. Ready for a walk on the wild side?

3. Dad sneakers

Daddy ain't going anywhere. And his sneakers aren't either. Plaguing entire cities, dad sneakers made it to the wardrobes of millions of fashionistas, and they are sure to bring lots of comfort and fun in the long run. There's really not much to tell you, because I'm sure you've seen at least one pair of these on the daily basis. If you've been fearful to get a pair of dad sneakers, NOW is the time to be bold. I'll let the Hadid sisters do the talking.

Be ready to feel at your sharpest with this micro trend that is slowly but surely gaining its momentum. It's risky business that will totally pay off in the future, for this trend has boom potential. So, you in? Be there or be square.

6. Barely-there sandals

Here's a trend that reminds me of 90s strappy heels. I'm honestly thrilled we got those back, and I can't lie: I've been fascinated with all of the takes on these shoes from several fashion icons. One of my favorites being Christie Tyler (nycbambi).

Yup, I absolutely love her.

7. Narrow-to-wide heel

Usually accompanied by an unreal platform, heels that start off at the top being somewhat narrow, only to thicken at the bottom are back, fortunately making our empowering walks much more risk-free and daring moves at the dance floor steadier.

8. Tevas

I remember when I used to look down at turist dads´ feet and yuck at the sigh of these. Well, oops! Tevas are now becoming all the rage. Yup, WITH and without socks. Go figure. But I've been doing my research (yeah, so me), and I've actually been impressed by the styling of these negatively reminiscent sandals. This just confirms that the world isn't black and white at all, and what used to be uncool can always rise above. We'll see if I dare to rise with it... or some other Teva-inspired sandals.

9. Thong sandals

Or flip flops —however you wish to call them— are now not only reserved for beach walks. And I don't just mean flip flops sandals: they've evolved into hybrids that I'm sure you'll all be impressed by. "Try me," you say? I shall.
